Alize Cornet is a professional tennis player currently competing at the 2018 US Open She is currently ranked as number 31 in the world of professional women’s tennis.
She was born in Nice, France on January 22, 1990.
Cornet made her Grand Slam debut at the 2005 French Open and later turned professional in 2006. After competing in Wimbledon in 2007, she won her first Women’s Tennis Association title in 2008 and soon rose to a career high ranking of number 11 in the world in February 2009.
After competing at several major tournaments over the years, she defeated Serena Williams – then the top-ranked women’s tennis player in the world – on three separate occasions in 2014, including staging a comeback to hand the tennis legend an early exit at the 2014 Wimbledon tournament in London.
Despite falling out of the top 40 in world rankings in 2015, she stormed back to win the Hobart International singles title in 2016 and the 2018 Ladies Championship Gstaad singles title on July 22.

At the 2018 US Open in New York City, Cornet drew much media attention after being with penalized with a code violation for briefly removing her shirt during an opening round match against Johanna Larsson of Sweden on August 28.
After returning to the court from a break, Cornet realized that she accidentally put her shirt on backwards and quickly took it off to put it on the correct way.
The move resulted in a code violation from chair umpire Christian Rask, who deemed the incident to be inappropriate.
Women’s Tennis Association rules assert that female players are not allowed to change their attire while on court. This regulation, however, doesn’t apply to male players.
The decision by Rask was quickly blasted as ‘sexist’ and drew intense criticism on Twitter and other social media platforms:
